This is a great place - all the better to visit as it's not nearly as heavily touristed as some American destinations. Regarded as the eastern end of the "Rust Belt" stretching to Chicago - this old steel town has shaken off the shackles of one-industry depression and entered a new cosmopolitan era. First off , I dig the trams and the funiculars to get you up to the old town on the other side of the valley in which the downtown sits. Pittsburgh is a city constantly changing - every day there are shiny new buildings replacing the old dirty steel town that it once was. There are very few things left to indicate that it was once the centre of the US Steel industry until the 1980's. Only the museums and statues point to what the city used to be. Pittsburgh has cleaned itself up and is now a bright, new city with a history that should and will attract more visitors as time goes by. I only went to Pittsburgh to see my favourite American Football team - the Steelers - play, but I was impressed with everything.
