Poitiers

Description: Poitiers is a town on the Clain River in west central France. It is a commune and the capital (préfecture) of the ... more
Poitiers ... Vienne département and of the Poitou-Charentes région. The town is picturesque; and its streets are interesting for their remains of ancient architecture, especially of the Romanesque period, and the memories of great historical events. Poitiers is strategically situated on the Seuil du Poitou, a shallow zone joining the Armorican to the Central Massif and connecting the Aquitaine Basin to the Paris Basin. The site of Poitiers is a vast promontory between the valleys of Boivre and Clain. The old town occupies the slopes and summit of a plateau which rises 130 feet above the level of the streams by which it is surrounded on three sides.

If you possibly can, make sure you go to see it. It only last half an hour unfortunately, but it was sheer magic. It is outside, and they use the fountains for the show. There are coloured lights and lasers and holograms and music, I felt like a kid I ... more

Premium Review Poitiers: Futuroscope - Unique experience (396 words)

Futuroscope is a unique and wonderful experience. It is basically a theme park, landscaped and built to look very futuristic, and it is an experience just wandering around admiring the buildings! The rides are futuristic technology rides, 3d cinemas, 360 degree cinemas, giant cinema screens, shows with moving seats etc. There are so many you will never fit it all into one day! You can purchase one or two day passes. We bought a one day pass, on a peak season day, and that was 19.50 each. A lot of money, but we thought well worth it. On the peak season days there is a laser show at night, and it is out of this world. If you possibly can, make sure you go ...  Read the complete review

Well I was there 2 years ago and still don't quite know. Part theme park, part cinema. The biggest attractions are “pavillion de la vienne” and “cinema dynamique” both cinemas have long queues so get there early. When you finally get to the “show” the seats are on hydraulic rams moving with the action on screen in the Formula 3 car driving through a quiet French village you feel ever BUMP, if you didn’t have a bad back going in you will coming out. Plenty of 3D cinemas, 360degree cinemas, and one with a screen 7 storeys high. Tips: after you go through the turnstile on the left is an information center were you can ...  Read the complete review

This weekend friends and I decided to go to Futuroscope in france. I have a keen intrest in cinematography and special effects used in films etc so the thought of going to a park dedicated to the moving image was a good idea. We bought and all in package that included Eurostar from Waterloo to Paris and TGV(french train) to Poitiers. Also in the deal was accomadation and two day tickets to the park. The journey to Poitiers itself was wonderful and get there with half a day to spare. Soon the park will open a station on its grounds so you can get off IN the parc. Sounds great doesn't it. I got to the park in the afternoon and proceeded to go ...  Read the complete review

Good price and good location None for me

To visit the region in different seasons is to drink in a culture that revolves around nature. Summer is crowded and you could find yourself stuck behind campervans.
