Here it is, another attempt at comprehensive guide in less than 2500 words. Geography Poland is situated between the southern shores of the Baltic and the Carpathians in the south It borders Germany, Czech and Slovak republics, Russia, Lithuania, Bielarus and Ukraine (plus Sweden accross the sea). It has varied landscape with 500 km of sandy beach on the Baltic; a belt of post-glacial lakes doted amongst rolling countryside; pretty boring flat middle; and hills and mountains (Carpathians and Sudenten Mountains) in the south. People The ...  Read the complete review

Poland will join Europe on may 2004, although it is still not very clear how will Polish citizens be treated in UK in terms of access to the job market. For the British tourist, Poland may not be the most obvious destination. It is the aim of this review to offer an overview of the attractions of Poland. For the tourist, Krakow is probably the most interesting destination. With his castle and its well preserved historic old town, Krakow is a city rich in history and with a vibrant night life too, given the large student population there. A tip if you stay for few days, in terms of accommodation, is to rent a flat. They still cost ...  Read the complete review

Well here I am again in sunny Poland, yes believe it or not in the summer time it’s beautiful out here. Today its thirty degrees Celsius without a cloud in the sky. I first came to Poland some four years ago and have seen big changes over the years. The factory that I go to is in Leszno some three hundred kilometers from Warsaw the capital. It’s a town of some 7000 people, which seems to be teaming with the old Fiat cars. The center of the town as with all towns in Poland has a large cobbled square, which in the center houses the town hall, which dates back to 1639. Now the meeting place for all the youngsters the area in the summer is full of ...  Read the complete review

Poland is a country of contrasts with beautiful mountains, lakes, sandy beaches, interesting cities and polluted industrial areas. It is also the home of the notorious concentration camp Auschwitz. The currency is the zloty and recently it has lost about 10% of its value against the pound so the country is no longer the bargain it once was. Prices are still, however, lower than in the UK. The distribution of wealth in the country is still noticeable with the poorer areas being in the rural area around the Russian border. BMWs drive side by side with baby Polski Fiats in Warsaw. Food is varied and usually quite hearty. Vegeatarians may encounter ...  Read the complete review

Maybe I went a little bit too far with the title because if I wanted to give you so thorough guide to Poland I would have to write one of those thick encyclopedia type book. What I want to give you is a little bit of advertisement the country needs but also an honest opinion what you need to be careful about if you will decide to visit. Well here , we go: LOCATION Maybe you won't believe it but it is actually Central Europe not Eastern Europe like everyone thinks. You can get to Poland by any possible mean of transport (even a ferry). My favourite - plane can take you to the major cities in Poland like Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk or Poznan (the last one doesn't ...  Read the complete review
