Advantages: Clean, friendly, relaxing
Disadvantages: Poverty
<REVISITED> Set in the undeveloped north eastern part of the island, about 3 hours drive from Kingston. Pa is set in a lush and green part of the island. I have been there times, there are lost of places to visit close by, Frenchman’s cove, the blue hole, Nonsuch caves, Somerset falls and dragon bay (where I stay) to mention but a few. The area used to be very popular with the rich and famous, Errol Flynn used to own Navy Island, Ian Flemming wrote a Bond novel there. While you are there try the Rum, Blue Mountain Coffee, Jerk Pork/chicken and Akee. If you like a relaxed interesting life without the brash tourist seen of Oche Rios, Negril and Mo'Bay try Port Antonio I generally travel to Jamaica in April/may, the weather is hot and sunny, the occasional tropical shower is soon over and dries rapidly. The locals are happy, welcoming and friendly Getting there: Two general methods of getting here, either independent or with a package. It is a lot cheaper to go with a package. Independent travellers should fly to Kingston and hire a car, travel along the main coast road (A4) towards Moran Bay/ Manchioneal and Port Antonio. An alternate route is to cut across the island (A4) towards Annotto Bay then head east towards Buff bay and Port Antonio. There is a small airfield just outside PA with light aircraft from M’bay and Kingston. Package tours I would recommend using Kuoni, I will be review them separately. Staying there, there are a number of Hotels locally, Dragon Bay, Frenchman’s Cove, blue Lagoon Villas and Navy Island are but a few. I will say that Navy Island has become rundown over the past few seasons Costs. Flights to Jamaica are from £550 return per person on BA London to Kingston Departure Tax £10-15 Car Hire is £15-25 per day Hotel rooms from £20 to £200+ depending on season/occupancy and resort.

Pink Panther - 29.08.01 Ohh I can feel a trip down memory lane coming on..I was in Jamaica/Mo Bay in March this year and it was beautiful, although I didn't find the locals as friendly as everyone makes them out to be, the Turkish are much more welcoming !! Each to their own though...nice op. |
