Advantages: Close to everywhere, not far from cool nightlife, is a quiet area in itself.
Disadvantages: Can be dull at times, make sure you have something, or someone to entertain you.
I stayed in North Providence, RI, for a month in october 1999. I stayed at a friends house, so I didnt have to book into a hotel or anything. It is a really really nice place to visit, with its really quite side, of the residential areas, to the densly populated, very commercialised city areas where the large shopping malls can be located. Another great thing about Providence is that it isnt really all that far from anywhere. A couple of hours drive will take you into Boston, which is a great city, and if you drive about 4 hours in the opposite direction, you've got New York. Providence is close to the coast, so a short drive and you will come across the beaches, which, (i imagine), are really nice in the summer. The time i went, which was winter, all the trees were brown, and there is a LOT of trees, and the colours that you could see just by looking out of a window, were pretty cool. Everyone is soooo accomodating to English people, and they cant help you enough, I dont know what their obsession is with us, but im not complaining! Although the area of Providence I was staying in was pretty quiet, you really dont have to travel for to reach good nightlife, and fun places to go. If you do stay in Providence, make sure you have something, or someone to entertain you, as I did, and im sure you'll have a great a time as I did! Overall I'd say Providence would be a great place to live, as its close to loads of places that you would want to go, but itself is a quite place, kind of living just outside of London. I'd recommend visiting Providence, especially if you dont have to pay for accomodation!!!
