Puerto Escondido. I would say that this destination is one of my favourites. Puerto Escondido (meaning ‘hidden port’ in Spanish) is a small town on the Pacific coast of Southern Mexico. It has become popular with surfers due to its excellent surf (dude!), but is as yet little known, and therefor remains ‘hidden’ You can travel by bus from either Oaxaca (12hrs), Acapulco (3 or 4hrs) or Mexico City (loads of hrs!) all have airports, and you can occasionally get really cheap flights (I did!). If you want to hang out and watch the beautiful people here is a place to do it. Puerto Escondido (Hidden Port) is easy to get to by bus or plane from anywhere in Mexico (overnight bus from Mexico City about 15 hours)and will be well worth the trip. Try and avoid Mexican holiday times such as Easter (Semana Santa)as accommodation prices are bumped up to almost double, otherwise there are hundreds of cheap places to stay, ranging from beach shacks to luxery hotels on the beachfront. New bars, clubs and eating places are springing up all the time and there will be somethiing for all tastes; if you are into surfing (or surfers!)then there can be wave after perfect wave to ...
