Sosua Puerto Plata A great place to go for adults & children. Unlike some resorts in Puerto Plata Sosua is one where you can leave the complex & be safe. Although always be aware of your personal belongings & money ! We stay at Casa Marina Beach/Reef which whilst it has its own beach's. For the sake of a 10 min walk you can be on the stunning beach of Sosua. A stunning beach wihich people from around the island travel to for snorkelling and the market! dont buy lilos or balls from the supermarket in the hotel because there is an idiot of a life guard that wont let you play with them in the pool. ohh that ball is so sharp i nearly cut myself. the idiot. other than that great hotel. walk to the shopping centre and taxi back [only 2.50] . i wonder will the hotel let this review through, eh!!!!!! . probly not . so so ... If you have read my recent review of the Occidental Grand Flamenco Hotel on Playa Dorada, you will know that our visit to the Dominican Republic was a very much last-minute choice, forced on us by Hurricane Wilma’s trail of destruction along the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. As it turned out, we had a quite a good time at the hotel, where we were staying All Inclusive. However, we did get out and about a bit in the area. I have been to Puerto Plata 3 times in the last 3 years. I can honestly say that it feels like a second home to me. I am actually from Goa but the locals always think I am Dominican and start speaking to me in Spanish. Over the years, I have made many friends there and they never fail to stop on the road to say 'hello'. They have become my extended family and we keep in touch. Puerto Plata is a beautiful place. Unlike other resorts, it does not feel like the area is becoming too 'touristy' (if there is such a word) because the resort is kept quite separate from the local village. Back in July of last year my girlfriend and I set off for the Dominican rep. not sure exactly what to expect. Friends of ours had gone before and said it was very important to stay within your resort as the streets were quite dangerous. Having paid out just under £1,000 each we were a bit disappointed to receive this news as we thought our holiday would be limited. Well let me tell you that couldn't be further from the truth. We stayed at the Playa Dorada resort outside Puerto Plata and it was lovely.
