Advantages: Hot, Cheap, Beaches

Disadvantages: Greek businessmen, Rampant tourism

Well, I am just back and I thought I should tell you more about it!

We stayed in Faliraki which is just like the San Antonio of Rhodes methinks...very clubby and pubby, not very Greek really except for the beaches, beautiful! You just cannot miss the Antony Quinn Bay, named after the movie The Cannons of Navarone which was shot there...very clear blue sea!

Don't get me wrong, Faliraki is fun, but it would be a waste to spend all your time there, Rhodes is a very ancient and diverse island which is part of the Dodecanese. It is actually closer to Turkey than to the Greek mainland.

You will then have to rent a car, watch out in Faliraki, there are plenty of cow boys out there who are trying to rent their old cars - avoid like the plague these family businesses, Power Rent and Sahara Rent a Car.
Dodgy like hell!
I recommend big names like Avis or Hertz that you can find at the airport or in big hotels.

Obviously, you need to visit Rodos, the old town of Rhodes, which is about 15 miles North of Faliraki. This is a very posh and exclusive resort, and it is only slightly more expensive...hint, if you want to find some free parking, go behind the church in the harbour, thats the only place!

Lindos is another favourite resort, and this is the real Greece, it is about 30 miles South of Faliraki. It is a very old town as well which is built on a cliff. Hence the small vespas and Donkeys to go about...Don't miss the Acropolis!
If you know Santorini in the Cyclades, it is just about the same, in a smaller scale.

All in all, Rhodes is a very hot plave with plenty of character and diversity, Faliraki is a good port of call, as it is a central and cheap location...if you have any other suggestions, please let me know!

This is where the Colossus of Rhodes supposedly was, wasn't it? I'd kill to go there right now, I badly need a vacation... :-)
