Advantages: Fun packed or nice and quiet, excellent weather

Rhodes is great, especially if you get a cheap deal. Last May we went there for a week's all-inclusive for 199 pounds including insurance. If you can get a cheap deal like that then don't hesitate and get your suitcase out now. The hotel we stayed in was OK, nothing special. We were 10 mins from the airport so the planes used to scrape the rooftops. The air-con blew hot air and the decor would make a 1970's house look modern, but we were there for the sun, drink, food and laughs. You have it all there.

Even in May it was very hot and never a cloud in the sky and the thing I liked best was that it was always breezy so it kept you cool. The beach was lovely, a bit pebbly but the sea was green and warm, and lovely to swim in.

The islane is beautiful and to see it we hired a scooter. A little 50cc job, but there are some pretty steep hills in Rhodes and with 25 stone of us two on a moped, it struggled somewhat up the hills. People were walking past us faster than we were going.

All in all a nice island with some good history and plenty of night life.
