Advantages: Cooler than alot of the island. Lots to see and do.

Disadvantages: The pushy waiters. the lack of taxis (and buses)

Rhodes Town is a good place to go on a holiday because there’s something for everyone. For all you shopaholics out there, you’ve got the new town, bursting with clothes shops, shoe shops, jewellery shops, a McDonalds even!
And for all you history freaks, you’ve got the old part. Tiny medieval streets jam packed with stalls and little shops selling leather bags, wallets, purses, a lot of jewellery (they’re big on it here), cheap sun and beach wear and so on. There’s also the city walls to wander round, if you think you can hack it.
Even better, on this side of the island it’s a lot cooler (though still very hot) because of the constant breeze.
A word of advice though, don’t bother visiting until at least 7pm. Until then the city is totally dead. It really comes alive at night. The shops in the old part are open until midnight most of the time, the streets are packed and the harbour looks beautiful in the moonlight.
The only bad things I can think to tell you about Rhodes is the pushy waiters at all the restaurants (They’ll do anything to get you in there, including force) and the lack of taxis at night time. You’re looking at a 45 minute wait to get back to your hotel.

The portrait painters on the harbour front are excellent!
Great op.
