This really is the city that has everything; no wonder they call it 'the Marvellous City' (Cidade Marvilhosa). I have visited 3 times, and still can't get enough! When picking a holiday do you find it difficult to choose between a city break or a beach getaway; an exotic culture or something more European; rainforests or ... Read the complete review

I first went to Rio back in July 2007, as my Godfather invited me over for a couple of weeks. I had only just turned 19, and was a hot blooded male. I packed my suitcase thinking I was going on a summer holiday, in went the shorts, the T-shirts, sandals etc. Little did I know it was going to be the coldest winter (our summer) Rio had ... Rio De Janeiro ranks amongst the most exotic cities in the world. Its natural attractions are world famous and its people legendary for their party tendencies. Despite being a budget friendly city it also has appeal for those on a 5 star expense account. Like most Brazilian cities it has many problems, its ghettos are to be avoided and the ... Congratualations on your choice of destination. The weather is great, the sea is warm and the people are mainly very friendly. Plenty of excursions run from Rio and I recommend taking time out to see the sights. One word of warning though, crime can be rife out there. Remember that there are extremely poor peole living just ... Read the complete review

My wife and I were in Rio when the Gulf War was raging in Iraq and Kuwait, but the death rate in Rio was far higher than anything inflicted by those two countries put together. The first people we met had been robbed four times and they'd only been there three days. Everyone else we met for the next two and a half weeks had been robbed on ... Read the complete review

Rio de Janeiro is indeed a breath-taking city (ok... this is where I come from... of course I must be proud of it)! It simply has everything. You can think about mountains somewhere else which are higher than the ones in Rio. You can think about beaches with more palm trees, water that has more blue, city with more lights. But I wonder if you can ... Read the complete review

Sunday. I had walked out of my job and was looking for work. I had flown to Brazil. An almost empty bus sped me from Rio airport to the centre of the city. The sky was full of black tropical clouds, but the air was warm and getting warmer. There were shanty towns, or favelas, built out over the waters of the bay, and beside the docks ... Rio de Janeiro is a magical place. Contrary to popular belief it isn't that dangerous although some muggings do occur, but that can happen anywhere in the world. There is plenty to visit and try in this marvellous place. The Pao de Acucar (Sugar Loaf) in the Urca is a nice place to visit. You will go up in stages and at each stage the ...
