San Diego

Newest Review: ... rate and took place on the rooftop terrace with excellent views over downtown San Diego and the port. Things to do 1. Gas Lamp Quarter This is where all the restaurants, shops and entertainment is. The place is always buzzing right into the early hours so a hotel in the centre of this area may not be for everyone. In terms of cuisine there is something for everyone- Thai , Indian, Italian and Greek to name a few. A place not to be missed for desert is Ghiradillis chocolate and ice cream parlour! There are many shops in the area and also the Horton Plaza shopping centre which is worth a visit just to see the way it is built with it's vario... more

I visited San Diego last October due to a work meeting. As it was such a long way to travel I thought it would be a good idea to add on a few days holiday to explore the area with a friend who was coming along. Getting There There are direct flights to San Diego from London however at the time these were three times as expensive as a fare with stopovers in the US and with a friend coming I wanted our flights to be as cheap as possible. Our flights went from Heathrow to Washington where we changed planes for a flight to Chicago and then another change for a plane to LA, where we got our final plane to San Diego. This may seem too much for some, but for me ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Forget LA - head for San Diego (346 words)

So much has already been said about lovely, beautiful and "californian" San Diego that I don't want to repeat myself. I have been there many many times as I am lucky to have family there (but not lucky enough that they want to adopt me so that I can move there forever!) and every time I visit I find it awfully hard to leave. Whenever most foreigners want to visit California, LA usually springs to mind first. Well, I would definitely say skip the urban nightmare and head on down to San Diego instead! Why? Because LA is, let's face it, a huge bustling city with little appeal to tourists: you go to Beverly Hills, walk around Rodeo Drive and then WHAT? ...  Read the complete review

San Diego: The Holiday of A Lifetime!!! (407 words)

San Diego simply is the holiday of a lifetime! There is so much to do and see, the weather is brilliant, as are the beaches and the Californians are so laid back! I stayed in a hotel right on the beach and woke every morning to a fantastic view of the surfers catching the early morning waves. There are plenty of restaurants where you can get breakfast and after that theres plenty to do. San Diego is home to one of the best zoos in the world, and its definatly worth a visit - you name the animal and the chances are that its in there! Its so big as well and all the animals have big habitats in which to live. Also in San Diego is SeaWorld - and that is ...  Read the complete review

The real California (823 words)

Where as Los Angeles isn’t very baywatch in reality, San Diego is,with beach bunnies every where adorning golden busy beaches ,licked by cresting waves.Board walks edge the sumptuous sands as the crystal blue skies and burning sun are as happy together as a little children and puddles. The whole city is geared towards the weekend as yachts wait patiently in the many marinas, sails flapping vigorously in the southern winds, Waiting for their affluent keepers to let them loose on the shimmering Pacific blue. Most of the United States Navy lives and plays here as gray frigates and battle cruisers are docked menacingly, lined by saluting ratings ...  Read the complete review

San Diego: SUN,SEA AND SAN DIEGO (404 words)

If you ever wanted to live and work in America San Diego would have to be the perfect place. All year round sun, sea and relaxation be it on one of the variety of yaughts bobbing up and down on one of the many marinas here or the extensive clean beaches dressing this beautiful strip of southern California. Downtown is pretty cool two with lots of bars and streetside cafes, clubs, and for the girls shopping galore and pilots dressed in white from the near bye Miramar airbase famous for the movie Topgun. You can even waft a cocktail or two from the bar where Tom Cruise sings that song. The hostel for the backpackers I would have to recommend here would be the Banana ...  Read the complete review
