Advantages: Romance, views
Disadvantages: Terrible traffic
I was just in Sedona on vacation May 20-21st and it was a great experience. For those people that have never seen red rock mountains, this is a must see. The views are beautiful. For those that live in rock mountains, it really isn't super impressive.
Driving here is terrible. I stayed on the entrace of Sedona when you get off the highway, so I had to drive 7 miles into the heart of the town. 7 miles doesn't sound like a lot, but it is when you only have one road in and out. Sedona apparently does not believe in street lights and has a bunch of small roundabouts at their intersections. This can get confusing for people that are not used to this. Also, don't drive at night. Sedona doesn't believe in street lights as well. I was driving back to my hotel at night after dinner, and could not see anything, even with my high beams on. If an animal would have jumped out from the woods, there would be no way I could stop my car before I hit it.
There are a lot of stores here to enjoy. My girlfriend and I spent a whole morning just walking up and down a street going from store to store. There are a lot of Western and American Indian themed stores, as well as restaurants.
In the town you can find plenty of places to eat that offer different styles of cuisine. There is also a local brewery in town called "Oak Creek Brewery" I learned that there are two locations, one where the actual brewery is that doesn't serve food and one that is a restaurant / grill. If you are going just to try the beer, go to the ACTUAL brewery. The prices are much lower and the atmosphere is more laid back. People there are regulars, so the bartender will know you are a tourist and take good care of you.
Honestly, a 2-day stay was long enough to see the town, and I think anything longer would just be boring. If you like mountain scenery and romance, then this is a good place to check out.
Summary: My opinion of Sedona

- 26/05/09 I've been going to Sedona for over 25 and have to say it's anything but average. There is so much around it that 2 days will just not cover it, you really missed the spirit of the town, try again, it's beautiful x |
