The palms live for up to 400 years and are unusual to look at to say the least, and surrounded by many local legends. The female and male parts of the plant are shaped rather suggestively, and each palm can only be either male or female, which is an unusual characteristic in plants. The male palms grow to 30m, and produce a lengthy reproductive catkin. Eden is the nickname they give the Seychelles, if you happen to be flying there by the "renown" Air Seychelles... as they play you promo. videos showing shoals of fish, and pictures such as the one that accompanies this article. Idealism? Selectivity? Hardly. It is all like this. The whole island is pleasant, and although it has it's downtrodden areas, they are not as bad as the English equivalent, and for a developing country, that is pretty good. OK, the Seychelles' main and most fruitful industry is no longer fishing, but tourism... so everything is done to ensure that you see all the right things, and are treated well.
