Advantages: If you stay within the resort you'll be very well looked after.

Disadvantages: Occasionally scary, constant pestering for money and endless invitations to visit shops

I really liked Sharm El Sheikh in terms of the beaches and the scuba diving and snorkelling - it really does feel like a 'holiday' place - however you're completely ensconsed in the resort and once you venture outside of it (as we did to visit St Catherines Monestary and go to Ras Muhammed) you do feel a little bit vulnerable as people endlessly pester you for money.

In a way it's humbling but also a little distressing - i had one little girl who was covered in blisters begging me for a couple of egyptian pounds and it was heartbreaking.

The town of Sharm el Sheikh itself is a little dull, it's made for tourists and therefore lacks identity. It's good if you want to buy souvenirs and whatnot but otherwise there's nothing exciting to do. I'd say Sharm is amazing for scuba diving and snorkelling and any of the beaches offer this in varying degrees - just beware of people trying to rip you off, be firm, and tell them no.

Summary: Not a bad holiday destination, but I probably won't be going back!
