SicilyNewest Review: ... Dive school- they were brilliant and the diving was excellent. We also took a trip to Mt Etna which was breathtaking- if you haven`t seen or been up a volcano you must do it when you get the chance- its unbelievable! The food is gorgeous and there are so many restaurants along the beachfront. The seafood risotto is delicious and i had this squid pasta which was probably one of the best dishes i have ever tasted. There are also many ice cream parlours and a crepe places. Prices were 8 euros for a main meal. I am planning to go back to Giardini Naxos and can`t recommned Sicily high enough- go visit!... more |

I went to Sicily for a university field trip. We flew with Alitalia (which is another story) and then got a mini bus to Giardini Naxos, though i noticed there is a bus that runs from the airport to the town. Giardini Naxos is situated beside the coast in the Messini province. We stayed at the Hotel Palladio which was situated right by the sea. The Hotel was fairly small- 15 rooms however the rooms were spacious, staff friendly and a plentiful breakfast. We went scuba diving with the Sunshine Dive school- they were brilliant and the diving was excellent. ______ What's it About? ______ Sicily is the largest of all the Mediterranean islands and roughly has a population of about 5 million. It is a volcanic island, the famous of which is Mt Etna. Technically, Sicily should belong to Africa as they lay on the same continental plate (Italy's 'toe' lies on the European plate); however because of the influx of Romans and Italians, they claimed it as their own. The climate in Sicily varies. In summer the heat can be unbearable (last time I was there it topped 47°C! We were sitting in the street with my relatives and this gust of boiling air swept over us! The locals knew this to be the start of the heat ... Read the complete review

When you get married it is the job of the groom (traditionally) to arrange the honeymoon, unfortunately for me the husband is rather likely to worry about tickets and passports and arriving on time at the airport so we decided quite early on that in order to save our marriage (by the time we left we would have been married for a grand 48 hours) we would have to arrange things together. What we then decided to do (for we read I) was to take our honeymoon in Italy and I really wanted to go to Sicily and what the wife wants the wife must get, so Monday morning we checked the tickets and passports were to hand (about 15 times) and proceeded to Gatwick, let the adventure ... During one of our many holidays on Malta Mick and I decided to book on the day trip to Sicily taking in the magnificent, menacing volcanic Mount Etna. The trip cost around fifty pound per person but we thought this quite good considering where we were going. We were collected from our hotel in Mellieha Bay at 4.30am (which was a bit early for me, (we had only had about three hours sleep) and started picking up other passengers on route to the docks at Valletta. The journey took an hour but we were some of the first at to arrive at the docks and board the catamaran. We settled back to enjoy the ninety-minute sea crossing to Sicily and had breakfast on board. ... Read the complete review

Summer 1998 my hubby and I visited Malta for the third time (we like Malta!). On the first two visits we had been aware that it was possible to take a day-trip to Sicily, but we had too much to see on Malta to make time for the Sicily trip. In 1998 however we made sure that we had the time (and the necessary finances!) to visit Sicily. It was an experience that I would recommend to anyone. The trip cost around £50 each, but that included being picked up from the hotel, the boat crossings and a coach while on Sicily - so all things considered it was pretty good value. Our day started in the worst possible way - a wake-up call at 3.00 am - arghhh. That ... Read the complete review
