Sofia, The capital of Bulgaria! Good footy team but otherwise is it worth going there? Well it's different! First problem has got to be the language, as a Language limited Brit I was really screwed!! The main languages used are Bulgarian, Russian and German, so if you don't speak them you've got problems, although some speak English most aren't very good (Of course better than my Bulgarian!!). Also reading things is impossible because like the Russians they use the crylic alphabet so nothing makes sense!
So what's it like as a place? You all know the stereotype of Eastern block ex-communist countries... well it's true! Sofia when I was there was very run down and not very appealing everything showed of greatness once but not now, one of the main parks in the centre of the city in a postcard is shown with huge fountains and loads of flowers is now where the skateboarders do their tricks. The big impressive statues now have barriers around them and bits falling off!
The food is interesting, great if your looking for a change, and as per usual now there's always Mcdonalds if you begin to miss home!!
Generally i'd not be expecting much from a holiday here although it's a nice place I didn't feel too comfortable, it could do with a face-lift!
