Skopelos town (the only main town) is a harbour town, all on a hill, with beautiful old Skopeletian houses, many of which have the classic fishscale rooves. Most of the town is for pedestrians only which means hours of ambling around the beautiful streets. The harbour front is packed full of tavernas competing with each other - some of which are pretty tacky but some of which are well worth a visit - Molos is one I'd recommend, at the far end of the harbour, and Finikas, slightly farther back from the harbour, is magical, you eat outside under ancient o... more

Skopelos is part of the Sporades group of Greek islands. It has a long, long history of invasions and quite a troubled past - pirates, dictators, earthquakes, you name it, it's happened to Skopelos. The island is known as the jewel of the Greek islands - as you fly over it you will know why. The whole of the interior of Skopelos is covered in pine forest with just a few areas that have been made into olive groves. There is only one main road which runs around the outside of the island (you can drive around the whole island in a day very easily). Sporades is a group of islands in the north part of the aegean sea.Islands with beauty,with magnificent beaches and without thousands of tourists(like other greek islands,like Crete or Myconos). Skiathos,Skiros and Alonisos are the biggest of the group,and the ones with the best transport connections.Skiathos and Skiros,both have airports,and all three islands are connected with the greek mainland,with regular ships and flying dolphins(which cost a bit more,but are faster than normal ships).
