Tanzania is one of the most incredible countries in the world. I am biased, I lived in Iringa Region for a year as a volunteer teacher. Tanzania is has something for everyone. It is a great place to backpack around and get a feel for Africa. At the same time it is a luxurious playground for the rich. Tanzania is a very stable country and there hasn't really been an political upheaval since independence so for it a safe place to visit compared to some other countries in East Africa. I spent a total of 6 weeks in Tanzania last summer, most of it doing voluntary work and a week or two travelling on. To begin with, Africa is a truly amazing place, but be prepared for an interesting standard of living while you're here. If you have lots of money, you'll find it easier, but if you don't hae so much, or want to see a more authentic view of the country, then be prepared to rough it a bit. Zanzibar is one of the biggest tourist draws, I've already writted a separate review about this so won't go on here. The Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater are famous places to go on safari, and there is a huge range of wildlife here, howere this doesn't come ...  Read the complete review

Africa is never somewhere that has been on my wish list especially Tanzania the closest I have ever come to Africa before my trip there was a visit to Tenerife and thinking I am closer to Africa than Spain!!!! But getting the chance to go to the country has been life changing. The place is out of this world and an experience I would recommend to anyone. First of all if you want luxcury don't come here .. IT'S A THIRDWOLRD COUNTRY! If you are looking for that sort of thing Dubai or America is the thing. Africa offers true beauty and humility something that money can't buy. Before visiting Tanzania luxury was everything to me after... well its all about ...  Read the complete review

I had always thought that safaris were going to be ridiculously expensive, but a couple of years ago, we managed to book a really well-priced, although slightly late, safari to Tanzania. The company was called Somak holidays - check them out; for a week's safari and a week in Mombassa (Kenyan eastern coast), I think we paid just over £1,000 p.p. Can you imagine sitting next to a pride of 30 lions - ranging from new born cubs to the battle-hardened females - for half an hour? Elephants crossing your path whilst you are seeing a group of giraffes cross your path? Cheetahs racing their prey? All in their natural habitat as well. If that excites you, then get ...  Read the complete review
