I was told this summer that Tijuana was THE place to go this summer, how come all those people were wrong! I found the town a very threatening and sleazy place, where people are trying to sell you things on the streets and won’t just let you walk past. The only good thing I found was that the legal drinking age over there is 18 and not 21 like the US, it meant that me and all my friends could go out.
We stayed in a motel in San Diego and walked over the border-although on the way into Mexico there is no official customs/immigration procedure.
A word of warning the police will arrest you for being drunk and load as some people I was travelling with found out, and they were set free for about the equivalent of $150 each. Also be careful crossing the border on your way home from a night out because US police will arrest people who are very drunk and are under 21. We had a better night out in Rosarito, about 30 minutes away ~$5 on the bus ~$40 by taxi.
