Advantages: Hustle and Bustle, Always something on, Shopping
Disadvantages: Difficult to get around
Last year on my visit to Canada i was lucky enough to visit the city of Toronto; here i have made a travel guide for all those who visit, but dont have long in the city, and therefore, want to make the absolute most out of its splendour!
History and Culture:
Toronto is well-known across the world for being "the global city", and has, for many years, been extremely successful in enticing immigrants to the city. It is the worlds most diverse city, when judged by percentage of non natives, as over 49 percent of residents were not born in Canada. The reason for this success is the safety which the city offers its population; having an extremely low crime rate juxtaposed with a high standard of living, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all that visit. The city is Canada's largest, housing over 5.6m people in the entire metropolitan area. It is also recognised as being one of the worlds foremost economic capitals, with many different businesses operating in the area.
Things to do:
No travel guide which involves the city of Toronto is not going to recommend a trip up the simply mesmerising CN tower. The tower, located in central Toronto, stood as the tallest building in the world for 30 years and stands at a massive 553m high; the glassfloor therefore, is not for the feint hearted. However, it would be nieve to suggest that the CN tower is the only place to visit in Toronto as there are many other locations which are well worth the shoe tread. The Toronto Zoo is sure to satisfy those with a taste for animals or the Royal Ontario Museum is a world mecca for those interested in Canadian History, and has a great reputation for research and development. Once again, for the sports fans, there are a variety of differing teams to satisfy your needs, with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Soccer Club playing in the top level of the North American Ice Hockey, Baseball and Soccer leagues respectively.
Climate:
Toronto's climate is more much agreeable than that of Vancouver, mainly due to its location of the far east of the country rather than the far west where harsh winds are common place. Here, the average summer temperature is between the 30-35 degrees centigrade mark and winter conditions tropical when compared to that of Vancouver; temperatures rarely dropping below 5 degrees centigrade.
Where to stay?:
Drake Hotel (www.thedrakehotel.ca), SoHo Metropolitan (www.metropolitan.com/soho)
Where to eat?:Auberge de Pommier (French), Canoe Restaurant and Bar (Continental)
Summary: A great city on the eastern coast of Canada
