Advantages: near the sea, small town, fun fair for kids

Disadvantages: beaches crowded, not many shops, restaurants cheerless

In July 2001, we spent a week in a private apartment in the southern suburbs of Torrevieja. Although we quite enjoyed the holiday, I couldn't say that the town had much to offer the average foreign traveller.

There is a funfair near the port and there are a couple of nicely located town beaches, however these are packed to the brim with locals. There is not much room to spread out.

Near our apartment at the south end there was no sand and only a scruffy beach with rocks. We found we needed a car to get to better beaches both up and down the coastal road.

The restaurants were not particularly welcoming if you didn't habla the old espanol.

So overall, I would not particularly recommend Torrevieja for either friendliness or facilities.

I admit, that rocky beach in Torrevieja is absolutely disgusting. Torrevieja is without a doubt a local resort for local people, and the facilities back that up.

Did you mean you visited in July 2001, or have I been asleep for a year?
