Just outside the hotel is a diner which services the needs of the guests, and they serve the meanest breakfast burrito I have ever had. It's a bit like last nights mexican meal wrapped up in a tortilla and smothered in cheese, but that belies just how good it is. Also charming were the mounted moose and bear heads that sort of found their way into the restaurant. We had dinner in a local steak house a few doors down. I pretty much agree with the opinion that preceeds mine, but I saw the town with older eyes, as part of a recent driving tour of New Mexico. Basically people end up at the place because the name is attractive. There is not really much to see in the town, there are only two streets, and the shopping is a bit low key. Not much is sold here, and the shop owners have to blow the dust off much of the stock. Wow!, what a place. No, really. Truth or Consequences is named after the 50's US game show - the host challenged a town any town in america to change it's name to T or C, and the small town of Hot Springs, NM did so! Odd beginnings aside - this is a great place to visit. Set in a valley in the shadow of the mountainous Continental Divide, this little town boasts at least 8 natural hot springs ( hence the original name), one of which was sited in the Youth Hostel I stayed in. With the usual amenities present, aside from the museum of local history, there's not much of great interest in the town itself. It's the surroundings that make this place so ...
