Advantages: cheap, sunshine
Disadvantages: poverty, filth
I went to Turkey in early July of this summer. Me and two good friends, found a cheap ticket and we thought that we would grab the chance and go. I wish we wouldn't have... We arrived in Istanbul aiport early in the morning and we were amazed of how dirty it was.The people were quite friendly though and they helped us to find a find a taxi to our hotel. The second disappointment was the taxi driver:Not only he overcharged us(as we realised later) but he insisted on a tip-as if we owed him one-and when we gave him one(about 2 pounds)he mumbled that it wasn't enough! The city was nice-loads of historical sites and a very nice bazaar-but the poverty was amazing: There were so many little kids begging for money that you cannot imagine. Apart from that(and the tones of rubbish in the streets)everything was ok. However, Mary doesn't say the same: She spent 4 days in the hotel room because of food poisoning. She still tries to find out when she got that...

- 11/04/08 God, That Sounds Bad. You Really Shouldnt Let 'Istanbul' Put You Off Turkey. You Should Try A Tourist Resort, They Are Very Clean and There Is Less Povery. Obviosly There Will Be Some Begging, You Even Get That In The UK. Great Review! |
