Uppsala is to me the Swedish version of St Andrews, but without the golf, an old city steeped in history especially as an important religious centre that now revolves almost entirely around its university. Uppsala is approximately 45 minutes north of Stockholm by train which will cost less than £10 for a day return and run extremely frequently during the day, approximately every half hour and more at peak times. This makes Uppsala an ideal destination for a day trip if staying in Stockholm. Even though Uppsala is the fourth biggest city in Sweden, the city seems to be filled with students from all over the place. Not only Swedish students but also an enormous amount of foreign exchange students. This city lives for the students, or should I rather say that the students bring life to the city. 30.000 new students arriving every year, to join one of the most respectable Universities in Sweden. Uppsala has been a student town ever since the Universities were built in the 16th century and has therefor kept the old traditions.
