Advantages: Cheap due to Exchange rate
Disadvantages: Same weather as England
Ok, I am a bit biased as this is my birthplace and home for the first 25 years of my life. I did the opposite of what my mother did. I came from Canada to England to Live! Same weather, just a bit older! Vancouver is an outdoor lovers paradise. For a city, there is such a wide range of things to do at any time of the year. The city itself is surrounded by ocean, so boating, beachcombing or just strolling by the seaside is a meditative thing in itself whilst in a city. Whistler and Blackomb moutains are just 1.5 hours away by car and is considered one of the best ski resorts in the world. There are also a few local moutains 30 minutes away that are small but can have great conditions. The weather is very similar to England, so don't let the idea of Canada make to think of iceburgs and polar bears. Vancouver is on the westcoast (sometimes known as the wetcoast) and the weather is mild. Stanley Park is as big as Central Park in New York and in a city that is a fraction the size of NYC that makes for one bloody big park to explore. The locals are friendly (if I do say so myself) and the city is generally very welcoming to visitors. Starbucks Coffee on every corner and fabulous shopping! A big appeal for UK visitors is the horrible state of the Canadian Dollar. You will recieve $2.35 for every pound. That means if a CD costs 15 Canadian Dollars that is only 6 GBP. This can make for a very cheap city break.

- 18/01/01 Would have expected a bit more detail from a 'native ' such as yourself, but a good op nonetheless. |

- 18/07/00 Just add again that it's a great city for a holiday, loads of things to do, very friendly people and great food. Easy trips out of town or over to Vancouver Island. Not as cold as the rest of Canada! |
