Vendee

Description: Vendée is a department in west central France, on the Atlantic's Bay of Biscay. The name Vendée is taken from the ... more
Vendee ... Vendée river which runs through the south-eastern part of the department. With more than 100 miles of sandy beaches edged with dunes and pine woods, and a very mild climate, Vendée is today a popular tourist destination. There is an extensive nude beach just south of La Faute sur Mer on the Pointe d'Arçay. The department also boasts many churches and abbeys, museums, and - for nature lovers - there are thousands of marked footpaths, a signposted bicycle route running along the coastal mudflats, and marshes that attract unusual birds. Fishing is popular in the ocean or in the Vendée's rivers and lakes.

Premium Review Vendee: Dream holiday not far from home (415 words)

We usually stay in, or around St Jean de Monts on the West coast about 60 kilometres South West of Nantes. We make a trip of it by driving down from Calais or Cherbourg stopping for one or two overnight stops on the way down. The local French hotel chains are extremely good value for money -Ibis, Premier Classe, Etap or Campanile all charge per room not per person. The Auto routes are straight from city to city and we have never encountered a traffic jam. It really does help if you can speak even a little French. Premium Review Great for camping (625 words)

The Vendee is an area on the coast of west france, just above royan, below Brittany. I worked there for a summer a few years ago, and am heading back there in July to work. Some parts are very pretty, like the town St Gilles Croix de Vie, an old port town with lots of photo opportunities and nice outdoor resturants. Theres a nice walk along the sea front, and later at night there are several lively bars in high season that have live music. Further north is the town of St John de Mont. This town has a fantastic beach, and loads to do such as windsurfing, banana boat rides and other water sport activities. Personally I think its way too touristy, all ...  Read the complete review

well la vendee region of france always boosts it is the second sunniest spot in france, and with the second hottest tempretures in france after the south coast ,funny but where ever i go in france they boost that, anyway for the record when i was there i think it was the number one region for rain in france! but as we know any region can get bad weather. vendee is situated on the west coast of france just below the loire river, its funny but the good weather usually starts south of that river, if you ever watch french weather forcasts. being on the coast, you can imagine alot of the nice places in vendee are on the coast, les sables d'olonne is a very pretty ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Vendee - Mediterranean temperatures further north (307 words)
by - written on 12/07/00 (Very useful, 413 readings)
Rating:

The Vendee is one of the hottest areas of France. Its temperatures compare with those experienced on the Mediterranean coast. It is located just south of Brittany - to the south of the Loire, Nantes etc. This means that anyone travelling from Britain does not have to go nearly as far as those who travel to the Mediterranean. In fact it is only two or three hours journey from the ferry at St Malo. There's plenty to do. For those who like the sun, sand and the sea there are some excellent wide open beaches where the sea rolls in, and you can relax and soak up the warmth. For those who like a little more to do there is plenty to see as well. A visit to Nantes, or ...  Read the complete review
