Description: Venice (Venetian: Venexia, Italian: Venezia, Latin: Venetia) is the capital of region Veneto, and has a population of ... more
Venice ... 271,663 (census estimate January 1, 2004). The city is included with Padua (Padova) in the Padua-Venice Metropolitan Area (population 1,600,000). Venice's nicknames include "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water" and "The City of Light." It is also the seat of Education in Europe. The city stretches across numerous small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy. The saltwater lagoon stretches along the shoreline between the mouths of the Po (south) and the Piave (north) Rivers. The population estimate of 272,000 inhabitants includes the population of the whole Comune of Venezia; around 62,000 in the historic city of Venice (Centro storico); 176,000 in Terraferma (literally firm land, the areas outside the lagoon), mostly in the large frazione of Mestre and Marghera; and 31,000 live on other islands in the lagoon. The Venetian Republic was a major sea power and a staging area for the Crusades, as well as a very important centre of commerce (especially the spice trade) and art in the Renaissance.

They are friendly though and didn't peck or scratch or anything. While you are there, you should also visit the 3 islands murano (famous for it's glass products) burano (famous for it's lace making and leaning tower) and ... more

I visited Venice in October of '07 and really loved it. I stayed in Lido which wasn't a very good idea as it was a bit confusing trying to find out how to get to the actual city of Venice! Once we got there however, it was really such a unique place. It's really strange to think that you're not really on actual land, rather fake land but all these lovely old building are just great. You can spend hours walking around just looking at the buildings, cathedrals, palaces etc. One great advantage is that there are no cars, the only modes of transport are walking, the traditional gondolas or the more modern form of transport, the water buses known in Italian as ...

I went to venice in june and i found venice lovely. You don't need longer than 3days in this city. Venice is popular all year around and lots of people visit this city every year. The best time's to see the city is in the morning or at evening. Its alot quieter and its much cooler. In venice theres plenty of hotels to choose rooms, But its cheaper the further away from st marks square. The best place to stay is by the train station or the bus station. It means you dont have to carry you bags far. Its hard work with all those bridges. There's alot of restarants, some are farley expensive. Be careful where you go, as i went to one and you hardly get ...

I visited Venice in June 2008 as part of a three-centre trip, staying at the Venice East Crowne Plaza, outside of Venice but easily accessible via a train which took around 25 minutes. On first impressions, Venice appears not to have much of an atmosphere, as on arrival in St Marks Square, you are greeted with a sea of tourists (and pigeons!). St Marks Basilica is an amazing building both inside and out, and the vastness of St Marks Square is also quite breathtaking. Beware of the costs of food & drink in this area however! You will be charged a fortune. Once we had taken the lift to the top of the Campanile, and appreciated the views of ...

A tour of the co-operative mines gives the visitor some idea of the atrocious conditions these men are forced to work under to scratch a subsistence level for their families. The mixture of dust and sulphuric gases are not kind on the lungs, and crawling through holes that are small, even for Bolivians, is arduous for the most adventurous.
