VeronaNewest Review: ... the last remaining complete roman Arena in the world, and it is breathtaking. This is the venue for the Verona Opera Festival, which is held throughout August. I've been to the Opera Festival twice now and it is a spectacular way to see the Arena - at night, for a performance, and when it's doing what it was built for all those years ago - entertaining the masses. Tickets for the Opera range ... more |

It could be said that in the past year I've gone to Verona a little too often, especially considering I don't live in Italy. That said, I'd go back tomorrow. This beautiful city has got so much to offer a visitor and even after three visits I don't think I've scratched the surface of it, but I'm going to try and talk you through some of my highlights of this great place. Perhaps most famous to Brits as the city where Romeo and Juliet is set, Verona lies in Northern Italy, in the Veneto region. Verona is the capital of one of the seven Veneto provinces. The Verona province includes a number of gorgeous little surrounding towns, including Soave, which is my pick ... Read the complete review

During my recent holiday to Italy Verona was one of the cities that I visited. Verona is a city in Northern Italy not far from Lake Garda. Due to its geographical position the city has frequently flooded in the past and as you travel round the city this can be noted by water markings on bridges and walls. Verona was also the town that Julius Caesar visited for his relaxing stays and features strongly in the travel diaries of Goethe. Furthermore Verona is also the town were Dante wrote the second part of his 'Divine Comedy'. Despite all of this however Verona is probably most famous for being the setting for William Shakespeare's most famous tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. ... Read the complete review

Verona is a very important town in the north east of Italy, near the Adige river. It has beautiful churches, palaces, monuments and original backgrounds. If you go to Verona, you have to visit the Arena (It is the monument which remembers the Roman origins of the town and it is the symbol of Verona in the whole world), the Roman Theatre (One of the most wonderful Roman theatre that remains in the northern Italy) and The Adige river (One of the most important and big river in Italy). One of the most important thing to see is the Giulietta House, in the central Capello street, whose history has been written by William Shakespeare. He has made Verona famous in the whole ... I visited Verona in the spring, and stayed at a youth hostel in the city. Traditionally *that* balcony is what everyone thinks of in connection with Verona. Of course there is plenty more to see and do in Verona, and the amphitheatre is a must. In summer the amphitheatre usually hosts performances of opera, particularly Verdi's Aida, and tickets aren't too hard to come by. The city has a good selection of galleries and art collections to see, and numerous churches. Food is fairly cheap, and this can be done on a budget quite comfortably. The one thing I would not recommend Verona for is going out drinking, as alcohol is notoriously expensive in ... Read the complete review

My visit to Verona visit was an evening Opera visit, and I wish I could have seen more. Piazza Bra, in the city center, is a busy, but spacious area, with shady garden areas and pavement cafes - it felt like a safe place to be, and the policeguards, on horseback, were a spectacular sight. The opera was a fantastic experience. Now I wouldn't call myself an opera fan - I like a bit of classical music as background, that's about it. You wouldn't catch be dressing up to go to Covent Garden. But opera in Verona is another matter. It's in the Arena, the third largest Roman ampitheatre, and you really get a sense of what it must have been ... Read the complete review
