VietnamNewest Review: ... is a 30 hour coach ride. The first thing we noticed on arriving in Vietnam was mopeds, they are literally everywhere! They make the roads chaotic, but you soon get used to it. When crossing the roads, the trick is to make eye contact with the drivers and simply step out, something you get the hang off after a few days in the country. From Hanoi many people take a trip to the beautiful ... more |

Earlier this year I did a 5 month long travelling trip, 3 months of which was spent in South East Asia, a month of which was spent in Vietnam. I really really enjoyed my time here, only wished it could have been longer I felt there was much more to see, and staying places longer really enables you to get a feel for a place! As you arrive in Vietnam, if you know little about its history it is worth visiting one of the many museums to find out about the war and other history which has shaped Vietnam and its people. We flew from Loas to Hanoi, which was quite and expensive flight, but the alternative is a 30 hour coach ride. The first thing we ... Read the complete review

About the country:- Vietnam Is in South East Asia, to the East of Cambodia and Laos. It has a massive coastline on the west of the country; the seas it is on are the South China Sea and the Gulf of Tonkin. The north of Vietnam borders China. Where I went:- I flew into Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), I then travelled north on the reunification express to Hanoi. Vietnam by travelling south from Hanoi into northern Laos. What I thought of the landscape:- The whole of the south and west of Vietnam are on the coast. Strange and eerie looking hills jot up from the water and from the land in several places around the country. There are sky ... Read the complete review

In September 2004, I decided to spend four months travelling around Asia as part of a career break. If you have seen one of my recent reviews, you will already know that I started out in China and Hong Kong. Vietnam was my next stop and I arrived here early October. Getting there~~ For me, it was a quick two hour flight from Hong Kong to my starting point of Hanoi. There are currently no direct flights available from the UK to Vietnam and the best places to travel via are probably Hong Kong or Bangkok. In both cases travel will involve an eleven or twelve hour flight followed by a two hour flight. A visa is required for travel to ... Read the complete review

Vietnam, is a very special place with a great bland of culture. However, their culture is dominated by those of Chinese with a good blend of local culture. Their traditional costume are more like the Chinese. The langauage is completely unique but with a great influence of Chinese language. In general, this country has a very good scenery and good food as well. The most tempting thing for back packers is the low living cost in Vietnam. This country is definitely a place for travellers who are not only interested in sight seeing but also to explore the culture and the lifestyel of the local. ... Read the complete review

The Modern Ho Chi Minh Trail starts in Hanoi, and takes in Hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Dalat, Saigon, and all the little should sees in between. The Reunification Express: There are three trains linking Hanoi with Saigon daily, although the trip takes a couple of days. To enjoy the country and arrive with some sanity, it is better to break up the journey. From Hanoi, S1 is the fastest, and departs at 19:00; the S3 at 19:30; and the S5 at 10:00. (Check the times at the station, they might have changed). Prices vary according to train and type of travel: hard-seat, soft-seat, hard-sleeper, and soft-sleeper. S1 is the ...
