VilniusNewest Review: ... and easy-going. Living there is very good, one you have gotten all your living arrangments sorted out. You get your flat, your visa, income and you are set. No one is going to bother you about anything. The police are easy going, you can have a party wherever you like and life is still relatively cheap if you compare it to London prices. Vilnius, my home for the last two years has a wonderful ambivalent quality about it. You never know what is going to happen, but at the same time, it is nicely predictable and easy-going. Living there is very good, one you have gotten all your living arrangments sorted out. You get your flat, your visa, income and you are set. No one is going to bother you about anything. The police are easy going, you can have a party wherever you like and life is still relatively cheap if you compare it to London prices. I have travelled pretty extensively and I have to say Vilnius did nothing for me. I came to Vilnius on an overnight bus from Warsaw, Poland having had an amazing 6 days travelling from Krakow through to Warsaw. On arrival in Vilnius the bus and all international trains stop at the train station. My first Lithuanian experience was the toilets in the station. What is it I like about Vilnius? Everything! The city itself is beautiful, there is a nice mix of Lithuanians, Russians, Poles, Belarussians and Ukrainians and you can here at least 2 or 3 of those languages being heard in a queue in the supermarket. Vilnius is currently the cheapest capital city in the EU in regard to eating and drinking out and although it has changed recently with the incoming flights of stag do's, it's no way near as bad as Riga in that aspect. Italian men have ... Read the complete review

Eastern European city destinations have become fashionable since the fall of communism in Europe, possibly because of their novelty value, but more likely because they are cheap and laid back. Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania is on the brink of becoming the next Prague (I think they are trying to take some leaves out of the book) and is trying to create a niche. What are the first impressions? - small 'Old Town' city centre, cheap food and accommadation, nothing of significant interest to buy except Amber, and embracement of the European symbols of capitalism i.e. cars and mobile phones. Vilnius is a huge civil engineering project at the moment. There ... Read the complete review
