Vilnius, my home for the last two years has a wonderful ambivalent quality about it. You never know what is going to happen, but at the same time, it is nicely predictable and easy-going.

Living there is very good, one you have gotten all your living arrangments sorted out. You get your flat, your visa, income and you are set. No one is going to bother you about anything. The police are easy going, you can have a party wherever you like and life is still relatively cheap if you compare it to London prices.

I mean if you want to throw a party, you can invite all your mates round and get sloshed with and fill your bellies with pork sausages (the only ones available) for about 10 pounds. All up, thats not too bad I'd say.

Come prepared with a thick skin and don't be the whinging type - if you can manage these two things and learn a few words of the language, you will be fine.

Just remember to check your change when you go out on the piss.

Summary: Try it out for at least a year
