ViterboNewest Review: ... where hundreds of local men (apparently.. and yes, I did ask!) you have to be born in Viterbo and be male to participate (rules me out on both grounds!!), carry a statue to the town hall through the town (and it looked extremely heavy in the pictures) and everyone has lots of parties. Viterbo is a district town of the northern part of Lazio, located roughly a couple of hours north of Rome, on the way towards Florence and Tuscany. It is not on the heart of the tourist trail, but makes an interesting and curious stop-over point, particularly if compared to Rome or Florence. The key to the history of Viterbo lies in the medieval period which gives it a very different feel to the classical grandeur of Rome and the flurry of Renaissance treasures of Florence.
