Fourteen weary Jules Verne tourists climbed off the coach that had taken them from the city of Shanghai to the River Port of Zhenjang on the Yangtze to board their cruise ship the MV Victoria Rose and their eight night journey upstream along the Yangtze River in China ending at the river city of Chongqing. My trip to China included a three night cruise down the Yangtze River from Yichang to Chongqing. This is the stretch of the river that will be flooded in the next few years by the controversial dam currently under construction just outside Yichang. There are an enormous number of companies running tourist boats, and public transport boats along the river, and it's possible to go all the way to Shanghai from Yichang (and back) along the river.
