I have toured a lot of car factories and expected something similar, but this factory is clearly what gave life to the idea that Harleys are carved out of solid blocks of iron. There are only two robots in the place; everything is lovingly processed by hand. York was briefly the US capital in 1777, but you really couldn’t tell now. I visited as part of my plan to visit three capitals, York, Washington DC and Philadelphia, in one vacation. York’s claim to fame now is that it is the HOG nation capital. Yes folks this is where your Harley is put together. (HOG = Harley Owners Group, but often the bikes are also refered to as Hogs). The Milwaukee factory churns out the engines but it is in York that you get to see the finished product. Free tours are available, and the guides are all Harley riders.
