Zante (Zakynthos)

Zakynthos has a reputation for being a Greek party island with the main resort of Laganas growing in popularity amongst the 18-30 cheap holiday market. However, do not be fooled! If you care to venture around the rest of the island, there is as many quiet fishing harbours and quaint seafront and hillside tavernas as the next island. **Yiassou (hello)** Zakynthos is also known as Zante but to the Greeks it is Zaknythos and best kept that way! This was one of my favourite haunts as a holiday destination and so much so that I have been over 10 times. I have stayed in most of the resorts, done the island tours, found the hidden beaches and delights and yes I got the tshirt! Last year me and 4 friends were booking a holiday which was hot and had a good party atmosphere as we were aged from 18-21. We wanted somewhere which would be hot, had good clubs and cheap drinks. Zante was the place to go. It cost us £350 for flights and a 4 star hotel and we were there for a week. The flight takes around 4 hours but because we were all so excited it flew by (literally). When arriving at our hotel we were slightly apprehensive because in the brouchure and on the internet it had been advertised as a family hotel and we wernt sure it would ooze the party atmosphere we were after. The Greek island of Zante is a beautiful place to go. When I went there I stayed in Kalamaki, but I visited the entire island via arranged trips. There is lots to do and see on Zante, from seeing the stunning churches to the smugglers ship. The smugglers ship is basically a rusted tin ship which was washed ashore (and the locals enjoyed plundering it!). It is set on a tiny, secluded beach, which you can only get to by boat, and is surrouned by the bluest of blue water! My Fiancee and I have been to Zakynthos 3 times now. Each time to the resort of Kalamaki, once for a fortnight and twice for a week. Neither of us have a bad word to say about Kalamaki or the island of Zakynthos. The first time we went we stumbled across 'the world famous' mermaids restaurant, ate in their the first night and have eaten every meal (breakfast and dinner) in there every day we spent in Zakynthos over the 3 trips.
