Advantages: Cheapness and ease of getting to one of the most beautiful places I have seen
Disadvantages: Absolutely none!!!
Alykes is a small village on the Greek Island of Zante (otherwise known as Zakynthos). It is situated about 30 minutes from the airport on the north of the island. Alykes is the most beautiful place I have been to. We stayed in a small complex and had a lovely room, only about 5 mintues walk from the shops, bars and tavernas which are all scattered along the seafront. There are horse and carts continuously plodding up and down the dust track street, which also links to another village called Alikanas. You could walk to and from both villages easily and both are so charming. The beach is lovely - sandy, not very crowded and crystal clear blue water - great for snorkelling! There are many excursion companies who offer boat trips to see the turtles (a must), and the famous shipwreck (amazing), and also the livelier Laganas (a street lined with clubs, bars and tavernas which leads down to the sea). I would recommend this as a holiday for anyone - young or old, rich or poor. With holidays going for £300 each and a night of food and wine only £6 each, who can say no? I got angaged there last year and it truly is the most romantic and beautiful places I have ever been to.

- 03/11/00 I was at Zante many years ago. Unfortunately at that time I was only interested in the beach and clubs. Maybe, after reading your review, I should go back again older and wiser! |
