Island of Zante (Zante (Zakynthos))
Member Name: lollylady
Advantages: hot weather, good public transport, cheap food and drink Disadvantages: expensive excursions, lots of touts onstreets wanting to sell cruises and get bums on seats in restaurants, not alot of entertainment
i recently returned from 2 weeks on the island of Zante. I found it a very clean and beautiful island. The drivers are manic though so beware. I would like to say that I thought the travel companies excursions were not the best i have been on. We went on a cruise to see the loggerhead turtles and found ourselves on the beach at St Nicolas for 3 hours before spending approximately 20 minutes in Lagana Bay looking for turtles. All can be done alot cheaper by yourself. A free bus ride to St nicolas beach from the main street in Argassi if you fancy watersports. The best way to see the turtles is to go to the beach at Lagana or Kalamaki and rent either a pedalo or if you have small children like me rent a motor boat and go looking yourself. We saw more turtles this way and its alot cheaper. I would also recommend going to the island for just a week as there is not very much to do in the way of entertainment especially for children. We had to make do with lots of quizzes and Karyoke a bit of a bind after a while although the food and drink are cheap. Summary: |
