Zell am SeeNewest Review: ... The Swarovski factory is just outside Innsbruck. The rest of the time we stayed in Zell am See itself and explored the shops, went to the lake, or sampled one of the many bars and coffee shops, and ice cream kiosks! After being in Slovenia the prices in Austria were a bit of a shock to the system, but were comparable with prices in the UK, although Rob did pay £3.50 for a liquor coffee one day! The currency in Austria is now Euros and 1 euro is worth around 65p. There are many gift shops in the town selling souvenirs and crystal. The main part of the shopping area is pedestrianised and there is a town square in the centre. One ... more |

Our holiday this year was a two-centre trip, the first week in Slovenia I have already written about. Our second week was spent in Zell am See in western Austria, not far from the German border. The transfer from Salzburg airport takes about 1 1/2 hours. Zell am See is a much more touristy place, but is very beautiful. Our hotel was just a short walk from the lake, which is the main attraction in Zell am See, and there was a mid summer lake festival on whilst we were there, which included street entertainment and fireworks.
