      Very helpful

      A lovely park

Recently, I have taken up photography again after having a massive break from it. A friend has been extremely encouraging and it has motivated/ inspired me to get out there again and have another go at it! Living in Nottingham means there are plenty of places to go to take photos but until recently, I had no idea there were so many beautiful places. One of my first outings with my camera led me to Colwick Country Park after finding it online.

As I don't drive, I had to figure out how to get to Colwick on the bus. Coming from the city centre, you will need to catch the number 44 bus from either King Street or just outside Boots near the Victoria Centre and the buses run every 8 to 9 minutes or so. The stop that you will need to get off at is Candle Meadow which brings you to the starting gate of the park. From the city centre, the bus journey only takes about 10 minutes which isn't bad considering I thought it was miles away and would takes ages.

Once I arrived at this massive park, which spans around 65 acres, I was a little bit in awe of its sheer size. I had no idea which way to start walking or where to begin. Me and my camera were beginning to feel very intimidated by this place! Seeing a large mass of trees to my right, I decided to head this way and see where it was going to take me. Walking through the woods was lovely and as there are so many, little bits of light would come through the top making the scene not as dark as it could have been. As soon as I started to see all of the interesting lines and angles, I was extremely happy that I made a trip out here.

After getting out of the first set of woodland, the land opens up to show Colwick Lake, filled with ducks, boats and fish! Trout season here has just finished but starts up again in March next year if you are an avid angler. Fishing is definitely not my kind of thing but sitting at the edge of the lake was so peaceful and the view was stunning. When I walked around to the other side of the lake, I did manage to spot a black swan which I had been told about from a random woman walking her dog in the woods. There are a lot of different birds around the lake and in the woods so this is a perfect spot for bird watchers as well.

Colwick Country Park also has a small adventure area with activities like rock climbing although this looked to be closed when I visited. The park also has a bowls lawn, picnic areas and places for the children to play. Even though I didn't see all of the park, it still took me a good few hours to get around to parts I did see. Obviously, I was taking photos along the way so it would take the average visitor a lot less time to get around.

If you are in or live in Nottingham and haven't been here yet, I highly recommend it. With lots to see and do, there is surely something for everyone to enjoy and if not, there is a pub at the edge of the park instead!!
