Advantages: Beautiful countryside
Disadvantages: expensive accommodation
The lake district is a great national park in the north west of england. It is, in my opinion, one of the most tranquil and relaxing spots in the whole of the uk.
My favourite spots include Windermere, Grasmere and my favourite Ambleside. We also like to stop in Kendel on the way up from Yorkshire.
The lake district has many lovely walks and absolutely breath taking views. These range from gentle walks for the beginner to full on mountain rambles for the more experienced and hardened walker! You often pass lakes, streams and tarns and more importantly lovely country pubs for a swift half before carrying on.
My favourite lake is Coniston where you can hire row boats, canoes and motorised boats. It is around £16 for an hr on a motorised boat which i dont think is too bad. There is also a lovely cafe where you can have tea and cake after an afternoon on the water.
With so many pretty towns, villages, lakes, tarns etc. youll be coming back to the lakes time after time - you never get bored. It is also lovely to come in all seasons to see the change in the wildlife and trees in the surrounding area. If you havent been you must try a short break in the lakes - you wont be disappointed!
Summary: great place to visit
