Advantages: lots to do, any pace you want.

Disadvantages: Summer only.

With lakes, mountains towns and villages, the Lake district offers a range of different holdiays that would suit anyone.

For those who like towns, lively atmospheres, walking out and eating out, there's Windemer, which is the perfect tourist spot - a lovely town on a large lake where you can relax, catch the sun and shop to your eharts content.

For a quiet holiday, suitable for older people, young families of those who just want to mellow out, stay in a smaller town like Conniston, enjoy the lovely rustic scenery, walk beside the lakes, visit the many cultural sites (Ruskin's house, museums to the lake distric poets and many more) indluge in some photography, eat in quiet local pubs and mellow out in a wonderful atmosphere.

If you like camping, there are some great sites in the lakes. it's popular with caravan clubbers, but beware of the winding roads!

If you enoy water sprots, the lakes offer a range of wonderful activities. ost lakes do not allow speed boats, but for sailing, canooing, fishing, swiming or paddling, the lakes are qwonderul. Even in Summer the water tends to be very cold though.

Walking and hiking is great in the lakes - more gentle walks around lakies are good for those startign out, while the fells range from the smaller and easily climbed hills through to difficult and dangerous mountains. if you are wlaking, make sure you have sensible footwear and a waterproof coat, get a map, and find a walk that is feasible for your party. Some areas of the lake district are quite dangerous, so make sure you are not a casuality.

For the even more daring, there are adventure holdiayds in the lakes, with rock climbing, absailing and caving. I would strongly sugest that you go with a group rather than trying to do any of these things on your own, especially if yo are not an expert.

The Lake district is not a good place to visit in the Winter - it gets very cold and often the roads can ge
t cut off by snow or bad weather. As a place to go in the Sumer, its the best.
