Advantages: Great views
Disadvantages: Viewed as an unhappening place
The Peak District isn’t just for old people walking. Living in Chesterfield, I have the Peak District as my back garden and although I take it for granted, love the place. Areas of natural beauty are becoming increasing rare in Britain, not only a disappointment for us (the tourists) but also it means there are less habitats for rare species. The peak District is basically the great lump of land between Manchester and Sheffield but there are some truly spectacular views and places to visit and to add to this there aren’t too many people, even in the summer. There are hills suitable for hill walking like Mam Tor and Kinder Scout, and beautiful valleys formed in the limestone areas. There’s lots to do too, there are many activity centres so you can do pretty much what you want, my favourite being climbing the gritstone edges but there’s handgliding, biking, canoeing and more all at reasonable prices, then for the evening the areas is littered with traditional country pubs. The Peak District is by far Britains nicest National Park, in my opinion.
