Advantages: good day out

Disadvantages: noisy

If you have never been to a Traction Engine Rally I firmly recomment you go to the Fairford one in August. Traction Engines come from all over the country to take part in this weekend rally so allow yourself plenty of time as some come by road and although it is a great sight to see them puffing heavily along the road it is a different matter to be stuck behind them. At the rally there is every old vehicle you can imagine and that includes bicycles, buses and motor bikes. The all parade around the arena.
The high light for me is the Ladies race! Ladies in the grounds can go and drive a traction engine in an obstacle race against 3 others. You must have trousers or skirt on although they do put you in an overall - one picture for the family album! To drive one is not as easy as it looks as to turn you start steering around many minutes before you have to and not like a car at all. This makes the race hilarious but no one laughs at you but with you. A good day out for everyone.
