Advantages: beautiful scenery, unusual attractions

Disadvantages: not a lot of indoor activities locally

This is a one of the truly unspoilt areas of England, and one which offers unique experiences to the visitor.
If youth hostelling is your thing (or even if it isn't!) go stay in the village of Castleton and make that your base for a holiday with a difference.
There are fantastic walks across the limestone scenery, and if that is not of interest, go visit the Blue John caves and poke around trying to find your very own pieces outside. Blue John is the local stone, a lovely purple almost amethyst like colour. The caves are worth a visit.
Equally worth trying out are the flooded mines......here you can actually travel on a kind of underground barge driven only by the feet of your guide on the ceiling of the tunnels.....a fantastic experience and one you won't forget, but probably best avoided if you get claustrophobic.
The villages are pretty and the setting can be breathtaking. Why not try it?!
