Peak District (Peak District)

Advantages: nice place Disadvantages: none
The Peak District stands at the south end of the Pennine Chain bordered by Derby, Manchester, and Sheffield, about 540 square miles are included in the Peak District National Park, it is the first National Park to be created by parliament. It has been popular with visitors since the seventeenth century. By the romantic era The Peak District was valued like The Wye Valley and the Lake District as a minature of the Alps. If you go there there is plenty to see such as Mam Tor, The Limestone Caverns near Buxton and Castleton, and Chatsworth Hall. All the towns and villages have a well dressing which is where the wells are decorated with flower petals pressed into a clay base, to form pictures or designs which are then blessed at a religious ceremony. This probably originated as a pagan thanksgiving for water. Summary: |
