Lovely park with lakes, watersports and wildlife (Rother Valley Country Park (Sheffield))

Advantages: Big park, flatish for walking

Disadvantages: Have to pay to drive in, can get busy at weekends and holidays

I must start this review by confessing that I can't fully review the park as it is very large and I haven't been to all of it.

I started visiting regularly after having my baby a year ago and regularly go on our own or with family or friends and walk round two large lakes which is where the visitor centre, watersports and cafe is, I think the rest of the park is more natural / wildlife oriented but as I say I haven't actually been so don't know.

We enjoy our walk around the lakes and there is lots to see. There is a windsurfing wire at one end where you can watch the windsurfers doing jumps or falls depending how good they are. There are also other boats which people hire or bring and I've seen some human sized hamster balls but never seen them in use so not quite sure what they are. As I mentioned there is a visitor centre with a very small museum which might keep a small child amused for a short time. There is a cafe which serves basic but good sandwiches, snacks and drinks. They've just built a little steam railway which only goes along a very short part of the lake and I've not seen that in use yet - maybe next summer. There is lots of wildlife, ducks and swans and a park which doesn't have anything suitable for babies / young toddlers. They also have fairly regular events and funfairs.

There is a car park near the cafe which you have to pay £3 per vehicle to get into but there are lots of entrances around the park where you can walk in for free.

I can't review all the facilities as I haven't used them all but it is a really nice place for a walk (2.5 or 3 miles depending if you take the shortcut). Its buggy friendly and there's always lots to see.
