EEE bygum, not bad. (Asus Eee PC 1000H)

Advantages: Properly portable, long battery life.

Disadvantages: No scroll wheel.

I bought the Asus Ee PC 1000H last September as I was looking for a computer that I could take on Holiday with me, and that I could take camping with me as I like to blog what I'm doing. So the crucial points I was looking for were connectivity, battery life and weight. It delivered on all counts. It happily played ripped DVDs on a 4 hour flight, it weighs only about a kilo, and it doesn't feel like a sack of spuds sitting on your lap.

The aspect ratio of the screen is the only let down for me. This is the 10 inch version and has a higher resolution screen than some others, but it sometimes feels like you are scrolling up and down a lot just to read a normal web page.

The performance is good for a sub-notebook, although it won't play games and will sometimes struggle with video from BBC's iPlayer.

Connectivity is excellent, with Bluetooth and n wireless networking built in. The battery charges in less than an hour and if you turn off the wireless and turn down the screen brightness, the processor will automatically go into power save mode and the battery will last for up to 7 hours. Use all the features and you'll still get close to 5. That's pretty good in my books.

I've got the Windows XP version which is straight forward enough for everyone to use, I'm not sure how novices would fare with the Linux version.

Summary: Excellent value for money, and very useful on the move.
