Well I originally was bought this lovely netbook in Pink as a birthday/Christmas present in 2007. It was perfect, everything I had ever wanted - my own netbook! I loved it! I was at that time studying in college and this was perfect for what I wanted, it let me do all of my work on word and email it across to my tutors. The laptop had Bluetooth which was brilliant for sending all my pictures from my phone to my netbook and storing them safely there. It also had an SD card slot and a USB slot both were very useful, the SD card slot enabled me to save all my pictures onto my netbook and the USB slot allowed me to complete work save and then take it to college - perfect!
The netbook is so small and compact that it even enabled me to transport it around easily and to connect to the internet wherever there was Wi-Fi. I was in love and this had become like my left arm. The netbook connected to the internet and WI-FI rather quickly which was useful as I was usually up and running within a few minutes. The keyboard was of an average size that you would expect for a Netbook and the mouse pad was very easy to use.
The netbook has a webcam on the top of the screen which comes in useful for taking pictures of yourself (if you like to do that) and for Skype, where I get the use from. The webcam although isn't amazing it does its job for Skype and with a mic also built in Skype can very easily be used. I feel that this Netbook is ideal for somebody who is going travelling (that is my intention) it is light, compact, perfect use to connect with family and friends back home.
The laptop charge holds for roughly 8 hours on full charge so really is brilliant. The netbook also looks good; it is very sleek and available in four colours, Pink, Purple, Black and White. It retail at £199 but I purchased mine (yes I replaced my last broken one for the same netbook just yesterday) for £129.99 - I can't believe it either!
I am no computer geek so I can't go into too much detail but for what I need this netbook is perfect. If you are looking for a Netbook/Laptop that lets you connect to the internet, write emails, store files and pictures, connect with friends and family and is compact that this is the best option for you. I have now had two of these and the last one which I broke last week had lasted 6 years and would have been longer but sadly I stood on it and smashed the screen.
You can also buy different cases and stickers for these Netbooks ranging from £1-£10 so you can design/style it however you want.
Great all around Netbook!
I have had my MSI for around a year now and honestly I have to say there are good and bad points.
Its undeniable that this note book has a modern and cute look (I particularly like the baby pink), and the inside (white) reminds me a little of a chunkier mac.
The keys are really easy to use and the directional pad is well positioned so that it is convenient and not too close to the keys. It looks really stylish and is not too bulky, nor is it slim enough to crack or break if it gets the tiniest bump.
It is so simple to use and perfect for a first time user (even kids). It has an operating system of windows 7 - which includes a type of microsoft word (starter), which gives you the ability to create, read and edit word documents, bonus! :)
But there is one flaw which is very clear. I take this note book to class and lectures, but there is a very short battery life on this. My three cell only lasts for around and hour and a half, and it is a nightmare to find somewhere to charge it.
So unless you don't plan on taking this out too often, or need to use it for too long, or plan on investing in a larger battery then this is a major factor to take into account.
But if you are willing to pay the extra (you buy the batteries online) then this is a great computer for anyone, from first time users to experienced computer owners.
This netbook is amazing! The software on it is really good and all the technical things are amazing but the outside isn't the best, the hinges can sometimes break, and it is extremely sensitive to being dropped. But overall it is quite good. The webcam on it is fantastic! You can add frames, effects and words to your pictures/videos. It's ability to connect to the interniet is good, too. Like most netbooks, it is does not have a hardrive, but they are cheap to purchase. So, the outer netbook is fragile. But overall it is satisfactory, I would possiblly recommend this to someone, based on the fact it is quite cheap and good value, but someone looking for a strong outer netbook I would recommend something else, maybe a dell or toshiba. This netbook is around £189 at argos. This is an absolutely magnificent netbook with just a few difficulties.
I bought the MSI Wind U100 in October 2008 whilst on holiday in the US for just $380 and it is one of the best purchases I have made in the last year.
I have used it every day since then and have had no problems at all with it. It is extremely portable due to its small size and low weight and does everything I need it to. My primary use for it is surfing the internet and typing up reports. I also make use of the built in card reader to transfer pictures from my digital camera.
I was originally going to buy an Asus Eee PC 901 but after trying it at a shop alongside the MSI Wind, I found the MSI netbook to be much better due to the larger screen and keyboard. In my opinion it also looks better and seems to be more durable.
The only bad thing I can think of about my netbook is that it has a 3-cell battery that only lasts 2 hours. It is definitely worth paying more to get one with a 6-cell battery and this is the only upgrade I might make in the future.
With all netbooks such as this one you do not get a CD/DVD drive but with so much software and updates available online now I personally do not need one.
Overall, I can highly recommend this netbook and think that it is excellent value for money.
MSI Wind U100
Portability is a main feature in nay notebook and every manufacturer is trying to give best portable and affordable notebook to its customers. Every well known brand have some good portable models in their notebook list and here I am going to discuss about MSI's 10" category ultra portable notebook with its good features and advantages as well as some disadvantages also.
Design and look
Notebook is very handy with its affordable size, and it has been measured as Width26 cm Depth18 cm Height3.2 cm and total weight is about 1.1 kg. if we consider its depth than it is not in ultra thin category and this is more than 2cm of Apple's Macbook pro. So the design is similar to other general notebooks but weight is very low with 1.1kg.
Processor is latest with Intel Atom N270 clock speed is 1.6 GHz. This is a new processor from Intel to provide ultra portability feature in notebook and it has been adopted by many other notebook like Apple's Macbook air and many more. Processor has good speed in its oven category. Previously we had Celeron and centrino processors specially made for notebook users and they are good speed processors also but due to their size and shape there are some problem with ultra portable processor to install them but now a good processor latest technology is available with Intel Atom, and this is a fit processor for this category of notebooks.
Memory size is not such good but according to this notebook is sufficient enough with 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM - 667 MHz of total speed. Notebook also supports maximum 2 GB of RAM. Now if we have a look on RAM than 1 GB is good for use in Windows XP but it is something less for Windows Vista. Now the point is that XP is more user friendly and well known operating system with very easy access. But Vista is latest and more advanced and it requires four times more space in hard disk to install it. So in this category of notebook there are more implementation are required in terms of Ram and hard disk space.
Internal memory size is also average with 80 GB hard disk drive but it is enough for use in windows XP and les for Windows Vista. As this notebook comes with already installed windows XP so that there is no problem with its storage capacity.
There is nothing new in graphics memory and it has traditional graphics card for ultrathin notebook or previous generation notebooks with Intel GMA 950 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0. good memory for routine use but very less for latest applications.
Display size is slightly different than other notebook in category and it is 10" TFT display screen with 1024 x 600 ( WSVGA ), wide screen display.
Other important features are its high definition audio, integrated webcam, networking card etc. but the battery back-up is slightly lower with only 3 cell battery and as per its size it should be more than his.
Over all it is a good notebook for portability function and good installed features.
The U100 has selected a 10" wide LCD display as oppose to the typical smaller sizes to provide better comfort while viewing or reading. In addition, the high resolution can relief concerns of the full display of web pages while browsing, giving you the freedom when exploring the Internet.
The U100 is embedded with the LED power-saving backlight technology in providing better color fullness and brightness, elevating the total quality of imagery. Furthermore, the lower usage of power can offer a longer operating time. The U100 is equipped with the capability of magnifying text within software, so you may magnify any of the words displayed on the monitor freely, making it easier when you are viewing photos, editing or reading documents.
The U100 has the 802.11b/g wireless all region Internet connection and Bluetooth transmission interface, so you can enjoy the convenience of accessing the Internet at home or out. There will be absolutely no obstacles getting around your daily life.
