Advantages: quick to start up/shut down, good size, light weight and compact
Disadvantages: battery does not last for 8 hours as stated!
I recently purchased this in the pink option, which is quite new to the market. I brought this to replace my laptop, which I brought just before the netbooks became popular. I have wanted a netbook for quite a while now, but am not the type of person who upgrades all the time.
I saw this in a catalogue and when I got a code come through for 10% off and a buy now pay next year deal I decided to go for it.
I'm not as good as some people with technology. I know how to use most things, but am not very good with all the jargon that comes with technology, so if this review seems a bit basic to techies, then I apologise.
My netbook arrived about two weeks ago. I was really excited and was keen to try out the new windows 7. When it arrived it was very simple to set up and all I had to do was to follow the on screen instructions and didn't even need to look at any manuals etc.
Setup did take about an hour to install everything, but I had expected that. It came with a small amount of charge, but I did need to plug it in after about half an hour.
My main reason for changing my laptop for a netbook was that I wanted something more portable and a longer battery life. The n150 is really light and easy to carry. It is small and compact enough to fit in most medium to large handbags and weighs around 1.2Kg, which is great for me. The screen size is just slightly over 10 inches, meaning that although it is compact, it is just the right screen size to see what you're doing on the screen. The key board is 90% the size of the usual keyboard and I find it very comfortable to use. The keys have a soft feel if you are touch typing and the mouse works well, although I prefer to use an wireless optical mouse.
I only have one problem with this netbook and that is the battery life. I check the description several times before buying this model and every single time it stated that the battery would last up to 8 hours when fully charged. I have been using it most days for almost two weeks now and the longest the battery ever lasts is almost 6 hours. This is still good as my old laptop only lasted 2 hours at a push, it just annoys me when they that it lasts longer than it actually does. I have tried using different energy settings, but even on power saver or balanced mode it still only just gets to 6 hours before I need to plug it into the charger.
I have confess that I don't really use my netbook to it's full capacity, I only really use it for odd word document from time to time and for browsing the internet. Other than that I don't really use the other features so can't really comment on them.
I haven't actually used the webcam to connect with anyone, but we have mucked about with it a bit at home. It's very good quality and gives a really clear picture. You can add lot's of different effects and you can also record a video as well.
I was a little disappointed with the sound on the netbook. It's not as loud as I would have liked and not as clear as my laptop, but it's not a major problem.
Starting up and closing down this netbook is very quick and takes nowhere near as long to start and close as my old laptop. The programmes are also a lot quicker to start as well.
Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and I got it at a good price. I had a look around and the average price for this netbook is £250. I managed to get mine for £220 and don't have to pay for it untill May next year, on the down side I did have to wait about 3 weeks for it be delivered.
Summary: Disappointed about the battery but other than I am delighted with mine!
